It's Your Wedding, Tell Them To Buzz Off!

I'm serious. Do you have family, friends or even vendors telling you how to plan your wedding? This is that sign you have been looking for! The permission you felt you needed to tell them ALL to BUZZ OFF!!

I'm writing to you as a 2021 bride who tried to make everyone happy and ended up bitter and hurt in the end. I want to save you from reliving my mistakes. Ultimately my wedding day was the Best day of my life. Though some of the, let's call it "drama" leading up to that perfect day was absolutely devastating. So here's what I want to tell you:

If you want to elope, forget what anyone has to say and DO IT!

Covid-19 is real. I think we all realize that by now and sadly it's here to stay. So long as covid is around our government will continue to create restrictions when it comes to wedding celebrations. As much as I hate it, that's the facts. So if you're like me and you know this man is the one and you wanna start making babies and building that life together don't let covid put any of that on hold for you guys. Back in March 2021, we were allowed 10 people at our wedding. Keep in mind this includes both of us, the photographer and the officiant. March 1st is my grandparents' anniversary and I always wanted to share that date with them. So there was no way I was going to wait until March 1st, 2022. So we eloped. It wasn't my first choice when planning my dream wedding but do I regret it? Not one bit! Covid can't stop love. I married my amazing husband and our families watched on skype and it was every bit as magical as I had hoped and dreamed it would be.

The second thing I wanna tell you is: Your wedding, your rules! If they don't like it? Tough.

It's hard to tell your loved ones "no" but it's necessary.

"No, you can't have your boyfriend propose to you right after my ceremony and then try and make it a double wedding!!"

"No, you can't use my wedding photographer for 30mins to take photos of your own family."

"No, you can't make this day all about you."
and my personal favourite "No, you can't disrespect my boundaries."

"I love you to the moon and back but no."

No. No. No. Don't feel guilty about using the word no. It's not a bad word. You're not a bad person for using it. If that person loves you they will respect your choices. Sometimes my clients want me to take photos of the weirdest things, and you know what I do? I take the photos! It's their wedding day, not mine. If that's important to them then it's important to me! Really, that's all there is to it.

Planning a wedding is fun. It's exciting and really feels like a dream come true but it's also challenging at times. I think that's normal. It's an emotional time in your life. So many expectations all revolve around this one perfect, beautiful day. With that much invested It's bound to have a setback or two. My best advice for you is don't be scared to speak up. After all, it is your wedding. It's okay to tell them to buzz off!
